About Sara McLean

Sara McLean (BSc, Hons Psych, M Clin Psych, PhD) is the driving force behind Fostering Difference. As a registered Psychologist and Adjunct Research Fellow at the Australia Centre for Child Protection, Sara brings over two decades of experience in child and adolescent well-being mental health.

Sara’s commitment goes beyond academic research and professional practice; she is dedicated to supporting children in foster and residential care who face challenging behaviour arising from developmental differences. Her particular interest in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and the developmental impact of other substances has made her an authority in the field.

In recognition of her tireless work supporting children in care, Sara was awarded the inaugural ACU Linacre Fellowship at Oxford University. Her vision has culminated in the creation of this website, a resource designed specifically to provide foster parents with easily accessible information and evidence-informed approaches.
